Skunks found in MA typically have a black coat with white, light gray, or sometimes yellowish stripes down their backs. Skunks can weigh anywhere from 6 to 12 pounds. Their breeding season takes place from mid-February through March, and female skunks give birth to their "kits" in late April and early May.
Skunks typically nest aboveground in tight, confined areas, such as under decks, sheds, tall grass, fallen trees, rock clusters, and other similar natural and man-made structures. Skunks are extremely adaptable and can be found in urban, suburban, and rural areas of MA.
Skunks are omnivores. They mainly feed on insects, snakes, and fruits. They are opportunistic eaters, and they are known to feed on garbage, pet food, and birdseed. Skunks forage for grubs, earthworms, and insects by digging small holes in lawns, plant beds, and compost piles.
Skunks are probably best known for the strong odor they release as a defense mechanism when startled or irritated. The skunk's famous odor comes from a thick oil musk that can linger in the open air for hours. When a skunk releases its spray in a confined area like under a porch or shed, the oils and odors can remain on the wood or in the soil.
When this happens, the skunk smell can linger for weeks or even months.

"Super efficient process. Chris came within hours of contacting him, set traps, and returned the next day. Traps and bait worked like a charm to catch 2 skunks in our backyard. He carefully removed the traps, as to not make the skunks spray. He made an annoying experience really easy to go away."
